Great story to bring to lifeI loved it knowing so much of it was true。 Drue was a great lady。 Different from other WWII stories I’ve read。 Jane knows how to bring characters to life。

Terrific historical fiction based on a real person。 Drue is an American actress married to a Frenchman living in Paris。 Her husband volunteers with the British during World War II and Drue decides to stay in her adopted home in Paris。 She is a broadcaster for a French radio station broadcasting to America trying to get the Americans to help Europe in the war against Hitler。 Sadly France falls to Hitler and she still stays in France trying to help the resistance。 This is an exciting read。 Drue co Terrific historical fiction based on a real person。 Drue is an American actress married to a Frenchman living in Paris。 Her husband volunteers with the British during World War II and Drue decides to stay in her adopted home in Paris。 She is a broadcaster for a French radio station broadcasting to America trying to get the Americans to help Europe in the war against Hitler。 Sadly France falls to Hitler and she still stays in France trying to help the resistance。 This is an exciting read。 Drue could be caught by the Nazis anytime and hopes that her married name saves her。 There is heartbreak and triumph in this novel。 History comes alive in the novel and the reader will always wonder what could happen next。 If you like historical fiction or even if you have never tried it, you will enjoy this book and I recommend it。Thank you to #netgalley, @JaneHealey, and #LakeUnionPublishing for a copy of this book。#GoodnightfromParis 。。。more

With another war looming and her husband away translating for the British Forces, American actress Drue Leyton takes a broadcasting job promoting France back home to America。 Frustrating that she is unable to speak openly about what she is witnessing, Drue breaks the government standard and tells Americans what is really happening inside France; bombs being dropped on children, hundreds of thousands of refuges leaving their homes with whatever they can carry and so forth。 Goodnight from Paris co With another war looming and her husband away translating for the British Forces, American actress Drue Leyton takes a broadcasting job promoting France back home to America。 Frustrating that she is unable to speak openly about what she is witnessing, Drue breaks the government standard and tells Americans what is really happening inside France; bombs being dropped on children, hundreds of thousands of refuges leaving their homes with whatever they can carry and so forth。 Goodnight from Paris covers the time just before France is invaded by the Nazis through their liberation。 There is love and loss, hope and despair, bravery and sacrifice。 All in all, this is one of the best WWII historical fictions I have read in a while。 It was very easy to become invested and hard to put down。 If you were a fan of The Nightingale, you will absolutely get lost in the story of Drue Leyton and her journey as part of the resistance against Nazi Germany。 A huge thanks to Lake Union and GetRedPR for gifting me a copy to review! The story itself was well-written and researched, the characters and setting intriguing。 My only issue with the book was how slowly the plot moved along。 As interesting as it was, I found my concentration wandering often throughout the book。 Some of the buildup to Drue's work with the French Resistance felt a bit unnecessary to the overall tempo of the story。 All in all, I feel Jane Healey did a good job of bringing Drue's incredible story to life, and I would definitely recommend "Goodnight Fro The story itself was well-written and researched, the characters and setting intriguing。 My only issue with the book was how slowly the plot moved along。 As interesting as it was, I found my concentration wandering often throughout the book。 Some of the buildup to Drue's work with the French Resistance felt a bit unnecessary to the overall tempo of the story。 All in all, I feel Jane Healey did a good job of bringing Drue's incredible story to life, and I would definitely recommend "Goodnight From Paris" to anyone looking for a good historical read featuring strong female characters。I received a copy of this book from a Goodreads giveaway。 I want to thank the publisher and author very much! 。。。more

This is my favorite book of the year so far, and would be a perfect read to celebrate Women’s History Month!! 🎙️ 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴 is based on the true story of Drue Leyton Tartière, an American actress who moved to Paris with her new French husband and eventually joined the French Resistance during WWII。In 1939, with the war nearly on Paris’s doorstep, Drue’s husband volunteers as a liaison for the British military。 Drue has a choice - she can return to acting in the United States, or she can stay in her beloved Paris, be close to her husband, and join the war effort in her own way by working as the celebrity host of a political radio show broadcasting to America to convince the US to join the war。It isn’t long until Drue’s anti-Nazi propaganda lands her on a list of people marked for execution by Hitler。 Once the Nazis invade Paris, Drue flees the city with her housemaid-turned-best friend, Nadine, and her boss, Jean。 As the conditions in France become more perilous, Drue continues her fight, making new relationships along the way and discovering the courage to risk everything for the country and the people she loves。From the cast of characters that meet as strangers and become family, to the descriptions of Paris (my favorite city) on the brink of invasion, to all the tense moments that took my breath away - this story is magnificent。 It’s told with such heartfelt emotion that made me so invested in these characters。 I finished the entire second half of the book in one sitting。 I was so excited to read the Author’s Note and see how much of the story was based on real events and people。 I’m grateful to know Drue’s story and will be going back to read every book Jane Healey has ever written! 🌹𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴 is out now wherever books are sold and on Kindle Unlimited! I wanted to love this book as her previous book, The Beantown Girls was a 6 star favorite read for me and it still lives rent free in my head。 However, this book just missed the mark for me。 The pacing was a little off and the time jumps took me out of the story。 The character work wasn't as great as it was in the Beantown Girls and I didn't find myself rooting for the character。 The plot was great though and I enjoyed the radio aspect of this book。 Overall if you enjoy WWII historical fiction, I wanted to love this book as her previous book, The Beantown Girls was a 6 star favorite read for me and it still lives rent free in my head。 However, this book just missed the mark for me。 The pacing was a little off and the time jumps took me out of the story。 The character work wasn't as great as it was in the Beantown Girls and I didn't find myself rooting for the character。 The plot was great though and I enjoyed the radio aspect of this book。 Overall if you enjoy WWII historical fiction, i think you will enjoy this slower paced book。 3 stars。**Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced review copy。 All opinions are my own。** 。。。more

It’s clear Jane Healey did an incredible amount of research for this book。 I’m a big fan of historical fiction books, and I love when the authors note touches on what was real vs。 fiction。 Never skip the authors notes friends!“By the end of the war, Drue Leyton Tartière had overseen the escape of at least forty-two American, British, and Canadian pilots, and assisted in helping over one hundred other Allied fliers escape France via the French Resistance’s underground network。”When the OMP Book Club hosted Jane Healey back in January of 2022 to discuss her book, The Beantown Girls, I asked her what she was working on next - she said it was about a Hollywood actress who worked in the Resistance during WWII, and I was instantly intrigued! Thank you Jane Healey, NetGalley, and Lake Union Publishing for an eARC of Goodnight From Paris - it’s out today (3/7/23)! I highly recommend adding it your list! 。。。more

I really enjoyed the fact that even though there was romance it was not the main point of the story。 It was great to read about people with strong convictions, and how they risked so much to help each other and do what was right。
